This huge honor and award was given after a careful and meticulous study of the school by The WASC Committee, which raved about the array of "laudable aspects at the school" in its report.
"This is one of the greatest honors our school has ever received -- perhaps the greatest honor ever," said an ecstatic Carol Van Asten, the director of Carden Academy HB. "We're so proud. We're walking on cloud nine."
The WASC Committee praised Carden Academy HB "on the quality of instruction being offered at the school" in its report.
Carden Academy HB's administration, faculty, students and parents were overwhelmed and overjoyed upon hearing the WASC announcement.
"This is a great day in the history of this school," says Principal Edith Hanlon.
As Mrs. Van Asten points out, "More and more people are beginning to realize the quality of instruction and education at our school. Consider this: our kindergarten students test in the 95th percentile nationally in the SAT 10 in reading, science, math and listening. Our eighth graders score in the 92nd percentile nationally in the SAT 10 in reading, math, language, spelling, science, social science, listening and thinking skills."
She adds: "93% of our graduates test into honors Literature and Algebra at top high schools like Sage Hill, Cornelia Connolly and Mater Dei. Our French students dominate Le Grand Concours, the prestigious national French contest: this year, Dustin Huynh finished first in the nation -- more than 101,000 students participated in the test -- and Celina Huynh was second. Last year, Reina Sultan, who is now at Connolly, was No. 1 in Southern California.
" Here is another notable fact about our school: Cornelia Connelly High offers four scholarships each year, and all four were awarded to Carden HB students in 2006-07, an unprecedented accomplishment that top OC educators still marvel at today."
