Our Primary emphasis is on Language Development. This includes the development of a sound vocabulary and the ability to express whole and complete thoughts that are clearly understood by others. Activities throughout the day include cutting, coloring, painting, and working with play dough and other craft media. Lessons emphasize sitting, listening, following directions, sharing and participating in large and small group activities. All these activities play a part in the total socialization of the young child.
As the School Year progresses, the various aspects of our Program are orchestrated into more complicated achievements that include organization skills, the use of imagination and ultimately the beginning of critical thinking. |

Carden Academy's Pre-School Math Program
Carden Academy believes that young children must be introduced to the most basic of mathematical concepts and be made aware of how these concepts are at work in their everyday lives. Lessons are taught in a sequential manner through a variety of methods to promote success. We use the Saxon Math Program which provides the use of manipulatives and other multisensory instructional tools.
Carden Academy's Pre-School Science Program
Students conduct the investigation with hands-on activities. Through observation, identification, and description, students easily grasp many basic and complex concepts. Learning about solutions, mixtures, acids, bases, and chemical reactions creates an environment of discovery and fun. They learn about the life of the bee, how seeds become flowers and they enjoy getting involved making "GOOP."
Carden Academy's Pre-School Foreign Language
Carden Academy teaches both French and Spanish. We teach Foreign Language through a variety of methods and techniques. Our foreign language teaches age-appropriate songs, recites cultural-based poems and uses everyday vocabulary. These methods help the children learn to enjoy a different language.
Carden Academy's Pre-School Fine Arts
Art and Music are a wonderful part of our well-rounded Curriculum. Students learn to appreciate life in a deeper way by exploring the work of famous artists. One of the children's favorite artists is Mary Cassatt.
Carden Academy helps students develop self-confidence and poise by performing in the Christmas and Spring programs. It is a wonderful time for the children to sing songs, recite poems, and perform in front of parents, family and friends. Program participation is another aspect used to broaden the the fine Academic Program that Carden Academy offers.
Dance, Tumble and Roll
Carden Academy is pleased to welcome The Webby Dance Company every Tuesday. Through beginning tap, ballet and basic rhythm children build memory and concentration while enhancing flexibility and coordination. The classes are taught by professional and loving teachers in a atmosphere that promotes self-confidence, creativity and physical fitness. Children will dance to great music while using pompoms, maracas, tambourines and more. So put on your dancing shoes and join us. If Dancing is not your thing we have Webby Dance Co. teaching Gymnastics on campus every Monday. Tip toe across the beam, roll down the cheese mat or cartwheel over the rainbow. With brightly colored equipment children learn a variety of gymnastic skills and stunts as they master the challenges put before them. Fitness attributes such as cardio respiratory fitness, muscular strength and endurance are key elements of this program. A mini Trampoline is also brought in from time to time.
Please feel free to speak with our Pre-School Director, Mrs. Dianne Stanford, concerning any of your questions or needs.

Pre-School Classroom Spring Sing Practice

The children are busy practicing singing and reciting poetry in preparation for their Classroom Spring Sing Program! Be sure to mark your calendars for this special event. This is a special morning set aside to watch your children in the classroom setting. The children really enjoy performing. Please plan to attend our Spring Program on Friday, May 15th at 9:00 AM in your child’s classroom. Refreshments will be served following the program. |
APRIL
The 3-Year-Old Program
Our theme for the month will focus on spring. The children are continuing to build their vocabulary skills through the literatures books “I Am A Mouse” and “Ask Mr. Bear.” They are working in their Carden Number Workbooks and continuing to work on recognizing their numbers 1-20. The children are continuing to sharpen their cutting skills too!
APRIL
The Pre-K Program

The Pre-K children have learned all of their Play Names and are continuing to practice the sounds of the letters. The children are enjoying their reading lessons in the Kindergarten Reader “I See.” They are continuing to write the 8 C’s, pairs and have now moved on to the bent legs. The children will continue to increase their vocabulary skills through the Carden Workbook “Mary’s Home.” The children are reading Minnikin, Midgie and Moppet along with several books for the “Book It” program as well! |
The Pre-K Program continued
The children have been working very hard in preparation for Kindergarten next year. They have been learning to work independently at work stations that are set up around the classroom while other students are being taught to read in the “I See” Kindergarten Reader. The children are given several worksheets to complete while the other children are having their reading lessons in small groups. Instructions are given to each child before they are expected to complete their work packets. It’s amazing to see the growth that all of the children have made since September!
Egg Hunt Planned!

On Friday, April 10th the pre-school children will have an opportunity to hunt for plastic Easter eggs, toys, and candy on the playground. They will all end up with several goodies in their Easter bags!
For those children who do not attend school on Fridays, please feel free to speak with Mrs. Dianne regarding a schedule change. We would love to have all of the children attend on this fun day! |
Summer Transition Classes for the Pre-Kindergarten Children

The next step in your child’s education begins with a successful transition into Kindergarten. We will teach each child to become more independent. As we prepare each child who is entering Kindergarten this Fall, please look forward to the following changes in June.
- No more naps (this means no more blankets). We start developing their stamina so they will be able to complete a full day of Kindergarten learning without a nap.
- They will become more familiar with the Kindergarten environment (i.e., the location of the bathrooms, drinking fountains, lunch tables, etc).
- Each child will be responsible for his/her own crayons, pencils, scissors, glue sticks and other belongings given to him/her at the beginning of Summer.
- Children will continue reading the 1st Kindergarten Reader “I See.”
- They will eat under the canopy outside on they yard.

|
Preparing Your Child for Next Year!
Carden Academy Pre-School is a year-round program. During the summer months, we provide the children with opportunities to reinforce and review the skills they have already learned. We will introduce new skills in the academic area and encourage social skills.
Children who attend Carden during these important summer months will have an easier time adjusting to the new environment they will face in the fall.
Art Feature
Each Month we present some of the art used in our Art Appreciation lessons. Two of the prints we may learn about are:
- The Torn Hat by Thomas Sully
- Vase of Flowers by Odilon Redon

Registration is underway! Be sure to sign up soon so that your child is guaranteed a place on the class list!
